Good afternoon.

I attached pictures of the replacement of the axle.

As far as the hub, do you need the entire hub or just the bearing?

Roy

Rear Driveshaft Removal

1. Raise the vehicle on a lift.

2. Remove the rear wheels.

3. Pry up the locking tab (A) on the spindle nut (B), then remove the nut.

4. Drain the differential fluid. See: Differential Assembly > Removal and Replacement > Rear Differential Fluid Inspection and Replacement

5. Remove the rear driveshaft inboard joint from the rear differential assembly. See: Differential Assembly > Removal and Replacement > Rear Differential Removal

6. Pull up the knuckle outward, and separate the outboard joint from the rear wheel hub using a plastic hammer.

7. Remove the rear driveshaft (A).
NOTE:

- Be careful not to damage the wheel speed sensor (B).

- Pull on the outer joint. Do not pull on the driveshaft because the joint may come apart.

8. Remove the set ring (A) from inboard joint.

Hi Roy and thanks for your response. I am going to replace the entire hub. It’s only $20 more than the bearing. Wayne

Good deal.

My concern is why did it fall out?

Looks like the boot has been off for a while. I just got the car so I’m not sure. I will attach pictures. With the axle already out can I just remove the hub an install the new one without taking the control arm and cam bolt out or does the entire hub have to be swung out. I’m hoping I got lucky

Yep, you are lucky.

Just replace the hub bearing assembly and you should be good to go.

Roy, thanks again for your timely and helpful response. Hopefully my last question for you. So you’re saying do not replace the half shaft and to just put exposed splines in to the new hub? That would be inherently easier.

No, Replace the entire half shaft. You cannot use the remaining part of the shaft.
