Hello 2CarPros,

I have what seems to likely be a wiring related issue. My right brake light and parking light (same bulb) don't work at all. The right blinker light does work. I replaced the right brake light with a brand-new bulb and still got nothing. I also found out that the left brake light only comes on when the parking lights are turned on.

I haven't checked the fuses yet but it's likely not a blown "stop light" fuse because that would mean both lights wouldn't work. Also, there are a whole other slew of components tied to that fuse, and they wouldn't be working either.

I also think this rules out the brake pedal sensor for the same reason, since that would cause both brake lights to not work.

I bought a new brake light socket harness to replace the right side. I haven't tried this yet.

Hi,

You are correct about the brake light switch. Also, the fuse has to be good as well. So, that leaves one of two possible causes. Either we have a weak ground or the wire to the right rear brake light is open.

There is a splice in the wiring, so the first thing I need you to check is if there is power to the green wire with an orange tracer when the brake lights are on. I attached the wiring schematic below so that you have a reference. I highlighted and circled areas of interest.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

joe

We replaced the taillight lamp socket harness, and this fixed everything. For anyone reading in the future I got an OEM part on Ebay for $30. So now both brake lights work, and the parking lights don't need to be on like they did before.
