Have replaced batteries three times for a total of six batteries in my truck listed above (diesel). Ford replaced them with the same Motorcraft batteries they use. Since they have a problem with Motorcraft, I need to know what battery and size would be a better replacement. As I will never use Motorcraft again they are junk batteries! I live in south Florida where heat plays a factor.

Good morning,

I have never had an issue with those batteries. They are as good as any one out there.

I would want to know why they are failing. Has anyone checked the charging system to be sure you do not have a overcharging condition that is causing them to fail?

Do you know what the cold cranking amp rating is on your batteries?

I will get the specs for you for the batteries. There are only a few manufacturers who make batteries and then they just put the brand name on them.

Also, make sure the cables are clean and tight both at the battery and the starter, block and alternator. Bad connections will also cause an issue with batteries failing.

I attached a chart for you to check some connections.

Also, the batteries should be size or group 27 with CCA of 1100 .

I have to say that the Ford dealership here said they were having problems with these batteries on the bigger diesel trucks and had to keep replacing them at their cost. They will no longer replace them at their cost they were losing so much money! Again, I live in south Florida where the heat plays a big part in this. I do not know what part of the country my response came from.

Hello again,

I am in the north East part of the country where it also gets very cold.

As far as brand, Exide is one of the largest manufacturers in the country. Interstate batteries are also very common.

Most of the parts stores have there own brands but they are the same battery just labeled different from the same manufacturer.

I used Motorcraft for years without any issues. I understand your complaining about that brand but I would be more concerned as to why they failed. Increased load, parasitic draws, starter drawing too much current, excessive voltage drop are among the top reasons for battery failure. I am old school when it comes to parts. Parts fail for a reason. If we do not find the reason for it failing, then we have not fixed anything.

Have to say this truck was purchased brand new six months later batteries were dead, not very good for a new truck. Ford checked everything and did not find anything. Again, they will probably keep saying they have problems with these batteries and the high Florida heat.

You need another opinion from someone else. They sound like they are blowing you off.

I know you have high heat, I get it. That is why all the things I listed need to be checked.

Cannot locate or match criteria for group 27 1100 cca batteries anywhere. Motorcraft battery that is in truck is BXT-65-750. What would be an Optima equivalent? After I get batteries, will have charging system checked, and not by Ford!

Okay, the group number is 65 by what you gave me. It is only 750 CCA. That is low. It should be much more. The batteries are too small in capacity. That may be the reason for the failure.

I attached a list from rockauto. They list the Exide battery needed at 930CCA. The others are a cheap replacement.

You could call around to parts houses for price and availability of those batteries. They are the ones I would use.
