So, I just replaced the power steering pump and the pulley on my 1995' G30. After replacing the belt also, there is a clunking noise from the belt tensioner and a smell of burning rubber. I've heard you have to brake in new belts, but I wanted to be sure before I let it run and potentially damage anything. Thanks for the help!

Hi,

No, that isn't normal. It appears as if the belt tensioner pulley isn't turning. Can you check that for me? And no, you shouldn't smell rubber burning. I have a feeling the pulley is stuck on the tensioner and burning the belt.

Check that and let me know what you find.

Joe

Thanks for the video, it helps. I would remove the serpentine belt and spin each accessory such as the alternator and power steering pump. Also, it like looks like the engine may have a running issue so please start the engine once the belt is off for about 5 seconds to see if the engine is okay or not. Please let me know what you find.

Hey Ken, turns out I just needed to replace the belt tensioner pulley as it had seized up. Also the belt might have been on wrong. Now she runs great. Hope this can help someone! And thank you for the response!
