I bought the truck with 112,000miles on the OD 2-3 years ago. Ran great for 60,000 then heard lifter tick around 172,000 tried additives but the damage was already done, flat spotted a cam due to roller needle bearing failure. Replaced cam and lifters, on start I heard the same ticking that was there before I replaced cam and lifters. Checked clearances on everything valves are fine, push rods fine, rings fine, main/cam bearings fine. Will Chrysler just not admit they have too much of an aggressive planned obsolescence design, because they can’t afford to fix them all and instead, we will have to throw parts at it the whole life of the truck? Is this a common concern you hear?

Hello,

Yes, this ticking lifter noise is quite common with these engines.
Just about all of them will have the noise, some are more noticeable than others.
There has much speculation of why this noise exists, but interestingly there are no service bulletins from Chrysler stating this issue.

I have heard some people used different oil, like thicker viscosity to help with the noise. But there is no simple answer for this.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Thank you very much for confirmation of my speculation. Everyone I’ve ever seen ticks, 2013+ To newest at least. They wouldn’t be able to afford to fix everyone on the road so no bulletin will ever be posted. I just now know never with that brand again. Very uncomfortable to know I could be driving home on 7 or less cylinders.

You are welcome.
Unfortunately, there is no actual remedy for this noise.
