1996 Renault Clio faulty speedo PLEASE HELP!

Hi, I have a Renault Clio 1996 N reg 1.4RT. The speedometer has stopped working, it worked intermittently but now has stopped altogether. I took the dashboard off and manually tried the speedo, which worked fine so I know it has not broken. The cable was attached but I do not know if it has broken. Any ideas on what it could be and how much it would cost me to fix? Many thanks, Ryan.

If the speedo is still out jack up front run car in gear if cable does not turn it is broken. Screws onto the transaxel remove pull it through the bulk head and replace
