Hi,

I have the car listed above Coupé Fox (86C) which I am currently changing the locks on. I bought a kit and have completed the driver's and passenger's side but have now gotten stuck on the boot/trunk. I cannot figure out how you are supposed to remove these handles, as it is too large to slide out in either direction. I have a new lock cylinder which will fit the keys of the kit that I bought, so I will have to separate the handle and cylinder as well.
I do not have the original/a working key for it. Is it possible to remove it anyway or will I have to drill out the old cylinder?
Feels like I have circled the internet looking for answers, so any help would be much appreciated!

Sincerely,
Alex

Removing the trunk/boot lock cylinder from a 1990 Volkswagen Polo Coupé Fox (86C) without a working key can be a bit challenging, but it's possible. Keep in mind that this process might vary depending on the specific model and design of your vehicle. Here's a general guide that might help you:

Disconnect the Negative Battery Cable: Before working on any electrical components, including door locks, it's a good safety practice to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

Remove the Interior Panel: Open the trunk and remove the interior panel covering the inside of the trunk lid. This might involve removing screws or clips that hold the panel in place.

Access the Lock Cylinder: With the panel removed, you should be able to access the back of the lock cylinder. Look for any screws, bolts, or clips that are securing the lock cylinder in place.

Release Lock Cylinder Clip: On some vehicles, there might be a clip that holds the lock cylinder in place. You might need to depress or release this clip to free the cylinder. This might require a tool or a small screwdriver.

Disconnect Linkages: There could be linkages connecting the lock cylinder to the trunk latch mechanism. You'll need to disconnect these linkages to remove the cylinder. This might involve sliding or unclipping the linkages from the cylinder.

Remove Lock Cylinder: Once the lock cylinder is disconnected from the linkages and any securing mechanisms, you should be able to carefully slide or maneuver the cylinder out from the outside of the trunk.

If you're unable to remove the lock cylinder through this method and drilling is the only option left, it's a delicate process. You'll need to drill out the lock cylinder carefully without damaging the surrounding area. This can be challenging and might require some skill to avoid damaging the trunk's structure.
