Car does not get a lot of use as is a weekend car only, I have had the car for seventeen years and had no real problems,
Last week I had to call Green Flag because the car cut out and wouldn't start after symptoms of fuel starvation, By the time Green Flag arrived it started and drove fine!
The other day my neighbor asked if I knew my car was making a noise. I listened and traced an electrical buzzing to one of the three relays behind the driver's side headlights under the screen washer bottle cover, I removed the relay and replaced it but the car then wouldn't start! I replaced the old one after coating everything with wd40 and it seems to have stopped for the minute! I am worried that it may happen again and be the reason for the breakdown. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

When you say it wouldn't start, do you mean the starter wouldn't engage, or does it engage but the engine not start?

Please understand, the Sovereign isn't offered in the US, so I don't have a specific wiring schematic. If you know what the relay was for, let me know.

Let me know.

Joe

Hi thanks for the reply,

It turned over fine all dash lights on, just wouldn't fire!
I am having trouble finding an accurate relay diagram so am not sure which relay it is, got a feeling it might be something to do with transmission, from front of car left hand side cluster of three under the washer bottle cover the relay nearest the wing was the one buzzing!

Hi,

I have a feeling there was a weak connection and when you removed the relay and used WD40, that took care of the problem.

If it changes, let me know and I'll try my best to help.

Take care,

Joe

Thanks for your help. I will keep an eye on it. All seems okay at the moment, but I have been reluctant to use it in case it breaks down again! Time will tell.
