I have the truck listed above1500 with just installed rebuilt 5.3, everything is done all parts assembled with assembly lube. I primed the engine by pumping oil at engine plug on the driver side at the bottom. My question is, I had 40 PSI on oil pressure gauge in cab. I got 5 quarts primed into engine put bottom plug back in. I gave truck a few short cranks. My oil pressure gauge showed 10 PSI. I assume the starter by itself is not strong enough to pressure up the oil system. Would that be correct? I have oil coming to top of engine through all rockers. I didn’t start truck only cranked it.

You are correct, the starter can only spin the engine so fast but when the engine is running is should come up to normal pressures. Please let us know how it goes and if you have any other questions we are happy to help.
