Only drive /use vehicle in winter and sits all summer. Last year when we were going to start using the right rear wheel was locked up and would not turn. Tried a number of different things, removing wheel, resetting codes somehow it just loosened up and away we went. Today after leaving it again for the summer the left rear wheel has locked up and the BAS/ESP light is on and trying the same things we are still not able to unlock the wheel. It's like the emergency cable is on that wheel only as when we drive off using power it just drags the wheel

Any suggestions

Check to make sure the caliper isn't locked as well as the parking brake. There could be a build up of rust causing either to stick.

We have never put the emergency brake on so can't be that. And the wheel has play so not calipers. There is about 2" of play but wheel is locked as if a pin holding which is why we think maybe something to do with BAS/ESP light

Just got the car back from the repair shop. Turned out on the Mercedes ML430 on the back wheel they have the disk brakes and a small drum brake attached to the emergency line. It was this pad that had crumbled and stuck in the drum so after removal of wheel and clearing replacing the pad BUT we also have to replace the bearings as caused wear. All done now if we can get the BAS light off

Even though you don't use the parking brake, they can cause problems. Glad you got it fixed.
