My car's front end (maybe under the hood) rattles pretty much all the time. It started a few weeks ago. It rattles idling, stopped, reversing, driving slow (when I can hear it), and all other times. The only time it doesn't rattle is when I turn the wheel to the left or right (doesn't matter). As soon as I let go of the wheel or the wheel is straight, the rattling starts again.

Good morning,

This could be so much but without hearing it, I cannot narrow it down.

Can you upload a video of the noise so I can hear what you hear?

It sounds by the engine but it only stops when I turn the wheel so I don't know. Second video is when it stops when I turn the wheel.

Great, thank you.

The first thing I would do is remove the belts and then start the motor and see if the noise is still there.

This could be the power steering pump making the noise. With the belt off, spin the pump and see if it makes any noise.

Roy

1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
2. Remove the serpentine drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine.
3. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose fitting and the power steering gear inlet pipe from the pump.

NOTICE: Do not start the vehicle with any power steering gear inlet or outlet hoses disconnected. When disconnected, plug or cap all openings of components. Failure to do so could result in contamination or loss of power steering fluid and damage to the system.

4. Remove the hose clamp and the power steering fluid reservoir hose from the pump.
5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
6. Remove the RH front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires or Wheel.
7. Remove the 6 bolts and the RH lower engine splash shield (1).
8. Remove the following from the vehicle:
The two power steering pump bolts
The two power steering pump nuts
The power steering pump and pulley

9. Secure the power steering pump and pulley in a soft jawed vise.
10. Remove the pulley nut and the pulley from the power steering pump.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

imageOpen In New TabZoom/Print

1. Secure the power steering pump in a soft jawed vise.
2. Install the pulley to the power steering pump. Secure with one nut.
Tighten the power steering pulley nut to 43 Nm (32 ft. Lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the following to the vehicle:
The power steering pump and pulley
The two power steering pump bolts
The two power steering pump nuts
Tighten the power steering pump nuts to 37 Nm (27 ft. Lbs.).

4. Install the RH lower engine splash shield (1). Secure with 6 bolts.
Tighten the 6 RH lower engine splash shield bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

5. Install the RH front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires or Wheel.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Install the hose clamp and the power steering fluid reservoir hose to the pump.

NOTICE: The inlet and outlet hoses must not be twisted during installation. Do not bend or distort the inlet or outlet hoses to make installation easier. Failure to follow these procedures could result in component damage.

8. Install the power steering gear inlet hose fitting and the power steering gear inlet pipe to the pump.
Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose fitting to 54 Nm (40 ft. Lbs.).

9. Install the serpentine drive belt. Adjust the belt while installing. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine.
10. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir with new power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid.
11. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding Power Steering System.

That sounds like a reasonable diagnosis. I'll get the belt off and everything and let you know if that's the noise.
