What causes my vehicle to make a whining noise and lose acceleration and makes the idle go up and lose power?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Many things can cause what you described. Is the check engine light staying on when the engine is running? If it is, you need to start by scanning the computer to identify diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a quick video showing how it is done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but most parts stores will do if for you or lend / rent a scanner to you. Do this and let me know what codes are found.

If the light isn't staying on, can you tell me approximately where the sound seems to be coming from? Also, when you lose power, is that when the RPM's go up?

Let me know.

No check engine light at all! Don’t know exactly where sound is coming from only makes sound when driving. Yes, loses power and rpm's go up. We just did a transmission fluid flush. So I do not know if that’s going to help.

Welcome back:

This is a manual transmission, correct? If it is, there is a power loss, and the RPM's increase but the car doesn't accelerate, it sounds like the clutch is bad. Don't laugh but try this. Go to a safe area where there is nothing that can be hit. Place the transmission in fifth gear and quickly let out the clutch. If the clutch is good, the engine will stall. If it is slipping, the engine most likely will continue running. If the engine does continue running, do not allow the clutch to slip for any extended period of time. We don't want to overheat things and cause more damage.

Let me know the results. And yes, you can rev the engine a bit when you try this.

Take care and I will watch for your reply. Also, if it is the clutch, servicing the transmission won't change anything.
