I had my power steering pump replaced about a month maybe month and half ago. Since it has been replaced a ring or a hose or something keeps popping enough to leak a good amount of power steering fluid out. It seems to do it only when it's extremely cold. I live in Iowa so we are like the arctic right now. It never did this prior to the pump being replaced. I have taken it back to the shop twice now because if this puddle problem. Now this makes a 3rd time it's going back. I feel like maybe they aren't doing something right if this keeps happening or they are trying to find the cause. Help.

When this happens do you loose power steering or is it just a leak that you find a puddle?

If you are loosing power steering then this is most likely the pressure line that is coming off.

If you are just finding a puddle under the Jeep then you most likely have another line such as the return line or a cooler line that is leaking.

Here is a guide on how to replace a pump just in case you or others need that:

I would suggest having them show you the problem that they find. Clearly this is not the easiest thing to tell you what the issue is without looking at the vehicle but they need to run the vehicle and watch all the lines as you most likely have a split line. If it leaks when it is cold then most likely the line is cold and hard and it allows the fluid to escape out of a crack. If they are not looking at it when it is cold then they may not be finding the crack in the line.

Below is the process from the manual on a pump and the pressure line for your review. Again, I would make sure whatever they find, they show you and if it doesn't make sense then I doubt they are finding the issue.

Let us know if you have questions or what you find. Thanks

Took it to a different mechanic and come to find out the reservoir was cracked. Not sure how the place that installed and "fixed it" missed that problem.

Well that makes sense. Clearly it is the worst when we have deal with workmanship issues as you always assume that is not the cause.

Thanks for the update and glad you got it taken care of. That info will surely help others. Thanks for using 2CarPros. Please come back.
