Power has left the steering. I've already found out that this is a power assisted electric steering system a continuous variable transmission and a small one point something liter motor. I've checked the fuses under the hood and swapped one fuse for another it didn't help. I've taken and unplugged the power assist module and ran a jumper wire from the battery to the motor. Powering the motor the motor works. What else can I do or what could be some other problems that are easy for a non mechanic to figure out?

I would have never ran a jumper wire to the steering motor that draws a lot of power. Your going to have to have it scanned for codes you probably set codes unfortunately by unplugging things. Bit if it doesn't work they should be able to clear the codes and see which ones come right back. You will need a professional scan tool to read the codes in all the computers.A diyer scan tool can't do thst. You might even need a professional scan tool to help diagnosis and repair the problem. Modern cars are complex with many computers especially a hybrid.I wish it wasn't so I could have saved a lot of money from having to buy a nice professional scan tool.
