Van is running (warm up) Transmission in park.

Problem

Odometer mileage
This vehicle is adding on mileage as it sits in park going nowhere. It counts the10th just like you are traveling When the count gets to(1)mile the Odometer. Mileage adds to the total miles of vehicle travel on the Odometer. I have not done the calculation Time-v-Travel-v-Speed to find out M.P.H

So, the odometer adds mileage when the van is sitting still, correct? The only thing it can be is the cluster, this is where the mileage data is stored. Here is a how to remove the cluster so you can send it in for repair, just search google or eBay for a service close to you. Check out the images (below). Let us know if you need anything else.

Hi Ken,

First and foremost, thank you for your time/fast reply I'm Mechanically inclined, and a little electronically savvy. Is there any way to test the cluster for the fault and fix it? As I'm on a very fixed income and don't have a lot of money to spend.

One of the microprocessors has gone bad on the cluster board. You might be able to open it up and see if anything is burnt which can give you a clue on what to replace.

Hi Ken,

sorry for the long dialog this van has a history of resent Transmission output sensor problems, r/r sensor(s)didn't fix the problem (still undetermined)
Question: Could the (cluster) be collateral damage caused by bad O/P sensor (Antics).I.E. The van registering 10-40 mph sitting in driveway/speedo jumping all over. It's my belief this (cluster) problem showed up after Diagnostics of the O.P sensors and charging system.

Presently unknown, after the sensor change failed to cure the O/Pspd sensor symptoms I got to wonder about Alt./A.C voltage so installed a full charged battery/ Disconnected the Alt./Fired it up/ the O/P spd sensor symptoms(Hrd Shift) seem to have Disappeared, this is when I discovered the Odometer problem, I haven't tested the Alt. For fault or A/C Ripple yet but I can check tomorrow and let ya know.

Sounds good, I don't think the alternator would cause it even though it might be throwing AC voltage, but you never know. please go over this guide to help:

I didn't see my last response posted not sure what happened to it but, the speedo is not working correctly, it is showing slower speed then the van is traveling, I was going at least 40 MPH and speedometer showed about 30-32 MPH, presently there aren't any hard cords set.
(Note) the van still displays symptoms of a bad output speed sensor.
I.E. In(park) speedometer still jumps around showing 0-35 MPH sporadic.
Hard shift and gear confusion.

You can try a speed sensor if you want but I don't think it can add mileage, that reading is held inside the cluster internally. I still think the cluster is bad.

Output sensor(s) have been changed prior to odometer problem.
(Oddity) I noticed that every time the driver's door opens the odometer lights up on the dash (dash lights turned off) The alt. Shows bad Diode(s)and a lot of A/C Voltage into the system as well. I wasn't questioning the suspect cluster failure but more to the overall cause and effect of the other known electronics to be sure the odometer is an isolated problem and not an inclusion of this other problem at hand.

Yep, the alternator throwing AC voltage can be the problem. I would change it out, here are the instructions on how to do so. Check out the images (below). Let us know if you need anything else.
