Is there anything special required to remove the power steering pump? Or is it a fairly straight forward on and off procedure?

Removing the power steering pump is not a problem for most back yard mechanics. Now reinstalling a new pump is the problem. You need to make sure the timming belts are tensioned properly. There are two belts. A primary belt and secondary belt. If these are not tensioned right you damage the motor. The valves and pistons will hit. There are tools and proper procedures to do this. I have used a clicker tool from www.944online. Com this is the easiest way that I know of. Good luck.
