I noticed that upon certain acceleration that there is a popping noise that seems to be coming from the driver's front side. It doesn’t do it upon slow acceleration, just when enough acceleration is applied that it lifts up the front of the car. On this vehicle there is only one ball joint on the lower control arm. Could it be the ball joint? The control arm? Something else?

Oh, yes that is a noise all right, I would not drive it anymore until the noise is fixed, it sounds like an engine mount or mounts are gone. This allows the engine to move excessively. What you hear is the engine or exhaust contacting the frame. To confirm, open the hood and then start the engine, have a helper put the car in drive with the foot on the brake firmly, then put the car in drive and give the engine a very slight amount of throttle and watch the movement. This will help confirm the issue. Please upload a video in your response so I can see.
