Vehicle threw code p0015 during the last 100 miles of a 2,500-mile trip. The car seemed to be running fine, so we drove home as the exact code had not been determined at that time. Oil had been changed before leaving and still full-on dip stick when returning. Vehicle has been owned approximately 4 years with no problems. With the low mileage on the engine, I don't know where to start looking other than possibly a faulty VVT solenoid valve actuator?

You are correct, if the oil is full and clean then you have an issue with the VVT solenoid valves or the camshaft actuator. I would try the valve first which is easier to replace.

P0015 - "B" Camshaft Position Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1)

I would remove the valve and look for a clogged oil screen, and if so clean it and then reinstall. Then clear the codes and take it for a drive.

Bank 1 exhaust VVT solenoid on the front passenger side valve cover. Check out the images (below). Let us know how it goes
