1998 Pontiac Transport water in engine

I put water in my car while it was hot. When I drove it started to smoke I checked the oil and a yellowish color shown on the dip stick. It still drives but after awhile it starts to smoke.I was told I need a new engine. Is this true?

I wouldn't be surprised if the engine is bad now. Probably started out as an intake leak, addding the water probably cracked heads and driving like that probably has damaged the bearings in the lower end.
