My car is overheating and when we checked the thermastat housing it needed replaced, but there was not a thermastat in the housing and now that we try to put one in there it does not fit ( the hole that goes to the engine is to big? The thermastat falls in). Is this where the thermastat goes? And yes we did have the rubber gasket on.?

These are absolutely the worst engines I have ever seen, poorly designed is an understatement! The reason you cant find the thermostat is because it isn't in a convenient place like a thermostat housing but noooooooo lets make working on this wretched car adventure in frustration and expense. I know lets hide it in the water pump, oh! Oh! Oh! And for even more fun let's put the water pump behind the timing belt so that you pretty much have to pull the engine out of the car to replace that, yes yes what a grand idea. Chances are you have a blown head gasket or cracked head. It wouldn't surprise me if some engineer didn't win tons of awards for such innovative design. If you ask me your unbelievably lucky to have reached 155k you must drive mostly downhill. Sell this piece of crap buy a honda. At least if it breaks the thermostat is where it belongs!
