My daughters car had a hose from the heater core and replaced it along with the thermostat one month ago after it blew and got water inside the car and overheated. Subsequently, she now has intermittent white smoke that comes out of the tailpipe (sometimes quite a bit) even on short trips (1-3 miles). We checked the oil and there is no antifreeze mixed with the oil. Her engine also runs very rough and vibrates now. Even though it is now overheating, I was thinking of replacing radiator and giving it a tune-up. Can someone help with their thoughts?

Sounds exactly like my car, ran quite rough and blew white smoke but I cracked the head and so I had antifreeze in there for sure. I would check for antifreeze again.

I was recently going to buy a Sunbird '94, but found that the white smoke it emitted was because of a crack in the Cylinder head above Cylinder #3. You can usually check that problem by checking each spark Plug while the car is running. There will be a little bit of smoke coming out of the cracked Cylinder.

Hope that helps a little.
