Electrical problem
1990 Pontiac Sunbird 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi,

Runs great! Suddenly, middle of any kind of driving, the speedometer falls to zero; car's engine quits. Pull over to the side of the road and try to restart and it turns over but doesn't fire. Have all dash electricals all working fine.

Checked the fuse box and the ECM fuse is blown - replace it and wiggle the electrical " bundle" under the hood, near the firewall, and it starts and drives until the fuse blows again. When the car is running the gas guage " jumps" all over the place.

Doesn't seem to make a difference how long it's running for or what else in the car is running or plugged in (4dr sedan by the way). Thanks a bunch

Trace the data link connector from the test terminal back to the ECM, and the ECM grounds. Then check the pins at the ECM connector, you might have a bent pin.
