1989 Pontiac Sunbird 1989 Sunbird missing and knockin inter

On a very cold day I was forcing the car to run and after car died it was hard to start then car ran poorly. Drove home. Looked under hood engine was missing and knocking but not constantly. Shut car off to not further damage anything. Could it be timing belt

It could be the belt. Did the check engine light come on?

It was the timing belt. I replaced it runs fine now
