2002 Pontiac Montana wireless headphones

Unable to get the headphones to work. They were brand new in original packaging when we purchased the vehicle. They have new batteries, light comes on and I have followed the instructions to no avail. Can the infared not be working on the main control unit? OR?

Just a thought, is there a component that needs to be plugged into the headphone jack like an infared transmitter? I know that if nothing is plugged in the headphone jack, then there is no way to keep the sound from coming from the rear speakers in my van.

There is a button on the headphones to switch between the video and the radio. That is about the only way to stop them from working.
