Throttle Position Sensor?

I own a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, 3.4L with approximately 170,000 kilometers. If the car’s been sitting around for a day or so without being started, especially on cold days, the RPM shoots up to about 4,000 then immediately drops down to the point of shutting off. It does this for the first few starts, then idles very rough until the engine warms up. Could this problem be related to a bad throttle position sensor? I replaced the idle air control motor last winter but the same problem still exists. Please advise at your earliest convenience.

If it was a throttle position sensor it would go up then down it wouldnt really do anything but run like. My tps went out on my car and all it did was shake and the check engine light came on the whole time it was running. So its very unlikely ur tps is causing that and if it is not something ive heard of. Sry.

Im Having that same problem and have not figured it out. I did the same thing, took it to my mechanic and replaced my IAC Motor because thats what the computer told them, and I still have the problem. Im guessing that the IAC Valve is stuck open. Try replacing that. If you do, let me know if that cured your problem. And Ill do likewise.
