Speedometer quit working

I have 1994 pontiac grand prix 90,000 mi, 3.1 engine -speedometer just quit working and I wondered what I should be looking for and where to start thank you

Hello,

It sounds like you have a faulty vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
It sends a signal of the transmission shaft rotation to the ECM and that gets translated into the gauges display that you see on the dash.

The VSS is located on the transaxle housing, just above the right front drive axle.
It is mounted with a single bolt, and it has a 2-wire connector. Simply unplug the harness and remove the bolt to take out the sensor.

You also want to make sure that the VSS is secured and does not have any corrosion on the harness.
