I have a 2000 grand prix gtp and I think there may be something wrong with the transmission. The car has been driving fine lately but on occasion when the car is cold and I go to put it in reverse the car will jerk pretty hard and when it does that then it also jerks into 2nd gear a couple of times as it passes through 2nd but after 2nd or 3rd time of passing through 2nd gear then it wont do it anymore. The rest of the gears work just fine, its just reverse and 2nd gear that have this issue. I have noticed this problem on hot days only but sometimes it will do it on a cold day. If I leave the car running for 5 min when I first start it then there wont be any problems but when I just start up and go then it all starts. There are no weird noises or check engine lights coming on it just does it when it feels like it then it wont do it again till the next day or for another week or month. I would like to take car of this problem before it ruins the trans completely. What could this possably be?

Have you tried to flush the fluid yet? And try changing the tranny filter, this is usually the problem with what you have explained. I had this problem once and that fixed my problem.

OK I just noticed that my speedometer does not work when cold out for the first min or so and when that happens then the trans wont shift into 2nd right. So I was wondering if there could be any relation to that. If there is how would I go about changing the part on the GTP.

Ok so I took it to the mechanic and he put it on a scanner and was able to find out that the output speed sensor was not putting out anything. While the mechanic would give it gas the rpms on the input sensor would read something and on the output sensor it was reading 0 at all times. This is all based on this cumputer like tool that gave him all the readings of the car. I was wondering should the output speed sensor read anything while the car is not moving even tho the input speed sensor was reading something?
