Accelleration

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix (3.8 V6) with 94,000 miles and the original platinum spark plugs. Recently, it has started to hesitate when accellerating, especially from lower speeds. It even hesitates when the transmission shifts to a higher gear. It behaves like when the vacuum advance was bad on older engines. I don't think newer motors have vacuum advances, so I'm guessing it could be the plugs, injectors or catalytic converter.

Am I on the right track?

A great place to start would be to go ahead and replace those plugs and take a close look at the plug wires while you have them off. Make sure and check the wires at the coils aswell. If it was a pluged converter it would lack power all the time and would not want to shift gears due to the engine load being so high.
