I need to know why my monitoring system does not tell me when my oil needs to be changed I went over 6,000 miles without changing the oil after last resetting it and it never told me to change it. I didn't purposely go over but that is what I use to remind myself when I dont have it written down. Also the date on my monitoring system is all dashes its not even their and wont let me reset it. What can I do?

It will have to be replaced.

If it has never worked, I would have GM replace under warranty, or at least argue that it has never worked and therefore should still be under original warranty.

I purchased the car used but just recently is when the date turned into dashes after having an aftermarket Alpine stereo installed with the GM Onstar door chime wiring to go with it. The only thing that I didn't get to go with the car was the wiring for the steering wheel controls. But that shouldn't have anything to do with the date on the monitoring system right?

Yes, very possible, especially if wired into monitoring circuit.
It could add resistance to circuit causing the problem.

Return to installer and have it checked.
