Is the temperature control sensing unit the same as the cts (coolant temperature switch) and if so where is it located

Should be somewhere close to the thermostat housing. It will be screwed in with 1 or 2 wires coming out. Put a layer of plumbers thread tape around the threads of the new one, disconect the wire harnise off the old one, break the old one lose and have the new one ready, if you change it quick, you wont lose much water.
