Where do I start. There is a whirring noise which seems to be coming from the left side of the engine near the serpentine belt. My belt tensioner was changed a year ago, and seems to be on there securely. There is a faint tapping noise as well. Sometimes during acceleration the whirring noise becomes really intense and my car gets stuck in whichever gear it is in, reaching 6,000-7,000 RPMs before shifting.

Sounds like it may be a trans noise that is transmitting through the engine. Has it ever set a check engine light? If so start by having it scanned for codes, there may be a few in there that could lead to the root of the problem.

Nope, no check engine light. My roomie checked the trans fluid, said it was low. He also had a premonition it was the power steering pump. Which makes no sense considering I got that changed less than a year ago. Needs some TLC anyways, gonna do some troubleshoot repairs. If I fail, back to the boards.

Thanks,

Try removing the belt and spinning all accesories by hand to see if you can feel a bad bearing or hear something out of the norm
