Hi
this is something you want a shop to check, no sense in going in blind, any shop should be able to see what was going on causing the failure and turning the light on, its worth the money, you may spend more trying to chase it and never fix it

Just wondering if it might be a fuel pump or converter? The light goes off before I can get it to the shop!

Honestly I could pick alot of things it could be, the shop should have a good computer and will be able to see the failure whether the light is on or not, a good shop will take the time and go though misfires and watch all ecm related sensors and go further if needed, believe me , the 70-80 bucks you will spend checking it will be well worth it, I just want to lead you in the right direction and throwing parts in it isnt the answer hope this helps

It was the converter, and the best part is GM will be paying for the repairs. It is on a recall!
