Transmission problem
1993 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 150000 miles

at 50mph the transmission tries to enter lockup but starts shuddering if you take your foot off of the gas it will pickup again you can not hold a steady speed for more than 5 seconds before it starts to shuddering again. Runs perfect at speeds under 50mph.

Most likely the TCC (torque convertor clutch) solenoid is bad.

Have trans shop inspect and give you a quote, the TCC can generally be changed without removing trans.

What is condition of trans fluid? Is it dark and smelly, do you have any obvious leaks.

Some trans shops are offering free diagnosis, so you may at least get a reliable diagnosis free.
