Engine Mechanical problem
1981 Pontiac Grand Prix V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

When I screw in the two bolts to hold the pump to the engine/ block the top part of the pump does not seal tight leaves an 1/8 th inch gap when the bolts are tight.

Use a straight edge across the matings surfaces of the pump and the engien block mounting flange for the pump. Make sure they are both flat. The one that is warped needs to be replaced.

Why was old pump changed? Is it a high quallity new one?

HI guys,

I have figured it out. Yanno the piece that moves like an arm or something, don't know what it is called. It is inside the pump. Looks like some part of a water pump that you would stand and push up and down on? Make sense? LOL Anyway, THAT was pushing against something in the engine/block whatever, in the hole there was something it was pushing up against. So duh! Now I figured it out I have yet to actually screw it back on tho, after trying to for so long, having to take it off and put it on a few times, my shoulders and arms are too tired today to be able to push/hold the pump up while I fit the bolts into their holes and tighten them! LOL
as you can tell I am a newbie, learn as I go! Thank you for your help!
