I'm having issues with my car. When I start it up it runs real high like you are driving 30 miles an hour. The rpm's are at 2.5. When I'm driving I don't have to push on the gas because the car is doing it for me which is scarey and I have to hit the brakes to slow it down. When I'm at the stop sign I have to really push on the brake to keep from going. Then when I sit at a light for a minute or so then it drops to normal like nothing happened. The rpm's drop down to.5 like normal when you are at a stop. What could be causing this because it's dangerous?

Clean out the idle air control valve and throttle plate and test the throttle position sensor.
