2001 Pontiac Grand Am transmission jumps into geer

One mechanic said that the computer regulates when the trans should shift and that we need a new computer but another mechanic never heard of this. Can you tell me the answer. Also not sure on the difference between automatic and manual trans---this car does not have a clutch--its your basic prndl thanks al

Shifting is controlled by PCM, but that does not mean you need a new PCM.

If you are having shifting problems, it could be a shift solenoid, low fluid level etc.

Have a trans shop diagnosis problem, but check fluid level first.
