2001 Pontiac Grand Am temperature gauge, cooling fans

My cooling fans are always on even when I just start the car and my temperature gauge is not working. Any answers? Thanks.

Got to a auto part's store like auto zone and have them scan your car for code's. Let me know what the code number's are. It sound's like the coolant temp sensor.
