Electrical problem
2001 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 159k miles

My car kept cutting off & not restarting. When it got it put in the shop we ran it on the computer & kept getting the MAF Sensor code. The mechanic replaced it 3 times & I still have the same code & the car will not drive more than 15 miles before shutting down. Once the code is cleared it will recrank but then the same thing again. However the car can idle for hours just fine. What can be causing my MAF Sensor to work improperly?

The car was ran on a Modis Comp. I think the code was VA1010. Not sure on the letters but I know the code # was 1010. Then it said MAF Sensor next to the code.
