2001 Pontiac Grand Am car overheating problem

Ive done lots of checks when it get hot it make a thumb in sound whthin the cooling system I put a new thermostat in I clean the radiator coil and I notice that the resevoir will not stay full to me I dont think its the water pump or the head gasket I may be wrong so if u give me some if me some information to help me with this problem will be very greatfull its a 2001 pontiac grand am se 2.4

If the coolant is getting low in the tank than obviously it is leaking somewhere, either internally or externally. If it is internal than there will be white smoke coming out of the exhaust system. If it is external than you will have to give the engine compartment a good look over to see where the leak is coming from. Don't forget to check the transmission fluid, if the tranny cooler has failed than the coolant can internally leak into the transmission.
