Hello. I have a 2001 grand am with 100,000 miles on it. The car will not automatically lock and the interior lights will not go out when I put it in drive like it is supposed to, but sometimes it will after a little time of driving and all of a sudden it will lock. I have the interior lights shut off now to avoid this problem. The other issue I have is that only the bottom half of the rear window defroster works. I was wondering what could cause these issues. Thanks for your help.

Hello
Thanks for the donation.

For the rear defroster, you probably have broken or corroded contacts (the black lines on window). Clean the contacts with electrical contact spray and a q-tip to see if this helps the issue. If not, the contacts may be broken. If so, there are products you can purchase that will fix the broken contacts.

For the int. Lights and door locks, it sounds like there may be a door ajar switch that is sticking or faulty. Try spraying all door jambs (try one at a time to find the right switch) with WD-40 or similar product. This should temporarily fix the problem. If it does fix the problem, you will know which door switch is bad by spraying them one at a time.

Hope this helps.
