Hi, I have an 01 Pontiac Grand AM. It will not start. When you turn the key all the stero lights etc. Come on but it just clicks once and does not turn over. Checked the spark plugs, oil, etc. Not sure what could be causing it. Any ideas?

Check Ign switch batt1 40amp fuse if okay

Check the battery connections if okay -short out the stater solenoid if it cranks over-starting check the park and neutral switch and ignition switch

I was going to try shorting them out but the starter acts as if its going to turn the motor and gets really hot, but won't start it.
