1997 Pontiac Grand Am fuel filter in rear very hot

There is a fuel filter at rear of fuel tank. Plastic line coming from tank to metal fuel filter then metal line
going to engine, the metal fuel filter gets very hot, cannot touch it, HOT.
IS THIS NORMAL? IS IT DANGEROUS?

Fuel and its getting hot
very dangerous
have it checked ASAP

Risk of fire.

"Â Keep cigarettes, sparks, open flame, and other
sources of ignition away from vehicle.

"Â Gasoline, methanol, and oxygenated fuels are toxic
and flammable and must be handled appropriately
