Hello,

my a/c compressor makes a scratchy sound even with the ac turned off. The a/c also dosn't work when turned on either. I am worried that the ac will soon lock up, break the belt, and leave me without a charging battery.

to avoid this I have been spraying the clutch with pb blaster( basically WD40). The noise will go away for a few days and ill have to spray it again. I noticed the whole pulley for the ac spins when it makes the scratchy sound and after I spray it only like half of the compressor pulley spins and the noise goes away(im assuming the clutch).

the ac bypass is a whopping 70$ I am a poor collage student and wont be able to buy a new compressor or ac bypass for a while or find the time to change it with all my studies and work.

my question is if I continue to spray the pb blaster on the clutch of the ac compressor pulley will my pulley soon lock up? Or will I be able to get a lot more life out of the pulley?

thanks a lot, nick

Nick:

Honestly, I can't tell you how long it will last. I assume the PB blaster is lubericating around the clutch and stopping the sound. Are you sure the product isn't getting on the belt and stoping the sound. If you have a dry belt, spraying it with a product like mentioned will quiet it down for a short period of time.

Let me know.

I hate to say it, but I honestly can't say how long it will last.
