In order to pass emissions after replacing the ERG valve, do you have to drive for a 100 miles to reset the computer?
Do you

After replacing the EGR, use a code scanner to reset the error code.

Code should not re-appear, if it does, reset, if it comes on again, then EGR control system or possible PCM problem.

EGR meters exhaust gasses back into intake to prevent the formation of oxides of nitrogen (NOX).

If valve was not opening, the combustion temps increase, if it was stuck open, engine would hesitate, stumble, possibly not start.
