When the temp rise up past half way on the temp gauge the car start to act as if it about to cut off, after awhile it will cut off and want start until cool off. The cooling fan comes on but it still go dead, can anyone tell me what the problem is.

It's hard for me to tell without doing some testing. Some possibilities, you may be losing spark, you may be losing fuel, when it gets hot. Another possibility is the coolant temp sensor. I'm not saying replace anything, there are many possibilities. You need to do some testing to point us in the right direction.
