1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.1 Mileage 132000

The car has been giving us trouble for last year - has been to shop twice and still have same problem - difficult to start at times from cold runs okay for short trips but then starts to stall and dies must sit and wait for 30-45 minutes before will restart - first mechanic said vacuum problems and it was good to go - not! Then said fuel pump - still not resolved, we changed out catalytic converter ourselves starts and idles now but rough as soon as put in gear and no power. Any suggestions? Oh - check engine light not on but trac off light comes on and stays on even after pushing the ETS button. Thank-you!
