I got the car last fall, and i can wiggle the gear shift back and forth a lot and just feels loose, and I have to shift slow. I think the shift linkage is worn out and/or loose. Am i right? I want to fix it so it doesn't fall apart on me some time. Help!

Remove the console and inspect the linkage, looking for worn parts or broken plastic connectors. Also inspect the linkage at the trans. make sure they are tight and clips that hold cables are intact.

But I think you are right, some cables connect to the housing using plastic connectors, which can break over time. Also the base housing bolts/studs can work loose.
