I have a 97 firebird that is got so that there was no park when you would put the car in park it was really reverse and reverse and N were both N then any of the other gears worked as they should then one day the car got stuck in drive I played with it for a sec and the car went into reverse the car has been stuck in reverse for 2 days now I took the center console apart and everything looks as it should and goes back and forth like its putting it in gear everything from the floor up seems to be working fine im wondering if someone on here can tell me when they think or what I should try or any information on how the linkage of the car works also if it helps the trans. Was rebuilt about 40k ago and shows no sign of slipping or hard shifting thank you any help would be a great help

Try taking off the linkage cable and put the car in park by hand. If you can get it in park. Then reattach the cable and see if that works. Be sure to block the wheels though. Ive also seen linkage cables go bad from rust and dirt. Try spraying some wd40 on it also and work it back and fourth. Do the same with the linkage arm. Hope that does the trick. Good luck. :)
