Electrical problem
1996 Pontiac Firebird 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

yesterday wed 24th I turned on my head lights and I drove for 9 blocks and it started to smoke. So I turned the car off. When I left last night I didn't know I did not have any lights in the rear of my car I knew that I didn't have the lights on the dash or on the radio so I compromised with that. Unit ill I got pulled over. I am wondering if the light switch has a short in it or if the wires are lose? And how would I got about fixing the problem? My husband is an electrician so I kinda think he could fix it but I'm not sure.

The headlight switch is hooked into relays. He will have to look first for blown fuses and then damage where ever you saw the smoke. If any switches were installed in the dash or anything similar a screw could have cut through the harness to make teh smoke you saw. There should be relays under the hood in the elecetrical center there. Check those for being burnt out or bad as well as major fuses- those are really big ones so your car won't catch on fire.
