I would like to know how high the lift on my cam can be before I start hitting my cylinder walls I dont even know if it can, but I do know if I increase the size of my intake valve it will hit the cylinder wall and it seems like if my lift is to high I can start having problems on my 1982 carberated 305 in my trans am

You can put a cam up to.500" with no problems. By the way the valve will hit the piston, not the cylinder wall. But if it does it will cause extreme damage. That lift will also include the rocker arm ratio. Take the advertised cam lift and multiply by 1.5 and that will give you the total lift in the cylinder.
